A Note from the Commodore
by Karen Hawkins

Welcome new members and friends of JSC.

This sailing season has started in a flurry of activity and it is all good news!  Our plans for club owned boats, spaces to put them and classroom has all landed in a few short months.  Not only that but you may have noticed the website looks a bit different.  We have a new platform for the website to help us manage the club owned boats, the people, the classes and general activity with the club.  Thanks to Todd Pesek and assist from Eric Levy for getting this in place and up and running quickly.

On Sunday June 26th after the races plan on attending the ribbon cutting, learn about the new website and programs we have in place and all the new developments with the club.  This will be held at the location of our classroom building.  For those of you who have not set up your member profiles on the website, we will teach you how to do so.  This will be an important part of communication within the membership. Come say hi to the new members and students, many who have already come out to sail, crew and volunteer.  Peggy Nie and Emily Hill have planned a nice event, it will be the place to be on the 26th!

For the long time members who may not know but we have an important member missing from the Race Committee this season.  Bernie Kuse was injured near the beginning of the season with a broken femur and has been at a rehabilitation center.  He will be returning home this week but still won't be able to climb on any kind of boat anytime soon.  Get well Bernie!  And a big thank you to Mark Graham who had the foresight even before Bernie's injury to put together classes to teach those interested how to run a sailboat race.  Also a big thanks to Mark Graham and Rick Blowers for building a ramp at Bernies House so that he could come home to finish his rehab!!!

Take a look in Lot C in spaces 165 - 179 and you will start to see club boats beginning to move into their new homes. Many members have been diligently working to get the boats repaired, cleaned, registered with the state and finally a sticker to be allowed into the drysail lot.  A nice buffet of boats will be lined up indeed!  A BIG thanks to those who have spent hours and I do mean hours of their time to ready these boats,  Fred Langford, Mark Graham, Pat Carr,  John, Marla, Johnna Hays, Beth Hankins, Ed Seacord, Rick Blowers, Bob Asher, and Kevin Regan.

A special thanks to Ed Seacord for keeping the RC boat and jon boat in running order and Kathy Sharp for keep our financials running in the direction they should.

Thanks to all the instructors who have spent evenings in the classroom creating or scaring new sailors (that's a joke) and taking the students out for a sail.  When you see the new sailors out there you can thank John Hays, Alan Fransen, Fred Langford, Doug Edwards, Mark Pilcher, Mike Maness, and Rick Blowers.

There is so much to share and so much I could write about but the important thing is that I want to see you on June 26th!

Editor's Note: A VERY, VERY extra special thanks is due to Karen Hawkins, our fearless commodore!  She has put many, many hours into the above activities helping to guide and also personally complete the above tasks.  She is taking the club to the next level and without her many of the changes would not have been possible.
