What is this?
Last year the club went to work on Yankee, our awesome Capri 25. Major upgrades were made throughout the boat that made for a much better sailing experience for all Boatshare+ members. Now it's time to tackle Captain Jack, our Starwind 22. With the introduction of our new Sailing Experience Class (more on that below), we want to get her up to snuff. Our superman Pat Carr is heading the charge, but we need some more help. Come One - Come All!
Details :
When: work days on 1/28/23 and 2/18/23. 8:30 to 16:00.
Where: Pat's shop at 8334 Ruby Ave, KC KS 66111
What to Bring: wood finishing tools- sanders, masking tape, brushes etc.
Mission: as a group what I would like to get done
Prep all the wood, interior and exterior for varnishing. Hopefully, put on the first coat near the end of the day. I don't know much about refinishing- we should consult someone with experience to get the right finish.
Prep and do the bottom paint. I have a half gallon of blue here. I don't know what was on it before.
Install misc hardware that has been purchased
Clean the carpet on the roof. It's pretty gross now.
Install or upgrade to LED lights. Dave Farron is good at that if he is around.
Clean up the wiring- it had a VHF and car radio installed.
Items I'd like someone to pick up and take home:
Recover the seat cushions
Make a new hatch board
Make a new keel tray cover
There are some wood parts that are a bit complicated that should be replaced if we have a good carpenter in the group.
It's great to have an inside place to work, but plan on getting dirty and dress appropriately. This is a big project and we can use everyone.
If you can only stay a couple of hours that's ok. Come on out, learn something about boat work, and catch up with sailors.
